  • Reward System: Step 0 to Mixed
    Support learners to use consistent language and recognise when they are applying essential skills successfully by using this Essential Skills mat and rewarding them with these colourful Essential Skills tokens.
  • Challenge Day: Step 0
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Step 0 in four of the eight essential skills as they consider: Who is the Sugar Snatcher? They apply Staying Positive and Aiming High to learn to be a police officer and explore some evidence and clues. Then, they apply Listening and Speaking to examine the crime scene before presenting to the class who they think committed the crime.
  • Challenge Day: Step 1 to Step 3
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 1-3 in all eight essential skills as they consider: Who stole the chocolate? They gather and analyse clues to decide which of the fairytale character suspects committed a fictional crime (stealing chocolate from the school/community building).
  • Challenge Day: Step 4 to Step 6
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 4-6 in all eight essential skills as they consider: Who stole the chocolate? They gather and analyse clues to decide which of the fairytale character suspects committed a fictional crime (stealing chocolate from the school/community building).

    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 10-12 in all eight essential skills as they consider: What makes a successful political party? Learners dive head first into the world of politics, learning about democracy and digital campaigning before setting up their own political party, debating policy points and holding an exciting election.
  • Challenge Day: Step 7 to Step 9
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 7-9 in all eight essential skills as they consider: What makes a successful political party? Learners dive head first into the world of politics, learning about democracy and digital campaigning before setting up their own political party, debating policy points and holding an exciting election.
  • Challenge Day: Step 4 to Step 6
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 4-6 in all eight essential skills as they consider: What makes a successful society? They build a new society on a distant moon called Utopia, including selecting who will be the first citizens, creating an animal that will help people and building a 3D model of a new city.
  • Challenge Day: Step 10 to Step 12
    Over the course of the challenge, learners apply Steps 10-12 in all eight essential skills as they consider: What skills are required to be successful in the world of work and employment? They take part in four professional scenarios, including a team meeting, sales pitch and product design session. The day ends with a self-reflection, during which learners write targets for the future.
